SWEDISH BUSINESS DELEGATION TO GUJARAT

17 delegates participated in the Swedish Chamber of Commerce India’s first Swedish business delegation to Gujarat, led by H E Mr Lars-Olof Lindgren, the Swedish Ambassador to India. Among the companies joining where some of the largest Swedish companies present in India.

The objectives of the trip was to learn more about business/investment opportunities , dialogue with government institutions and officials / trade promotion associations, promote business and to meet potential business counterparts.

The two day program in Ahmedabad and Gandhingar, 11-13 April 2013, consisted of various meetings and round table discussions. The delegation visited i.e. the Sabarmati Riverfront and the BRTS – Bus Rapid Transport System developed by Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) and the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).

The delegation also met with the Hon'ble Chief Minister Mr Narendra Modi and government officials at the Secretariat.

During that meeting, Mr Modi told the delegation that information technology, environment technology and biotechnology will be the three pillars of growth of Gujarat in coming decades.

During a round table interaction meeting under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary/Industries & Mines Dept., Government of Gujarat, the delegates had the opportunity to present their companies and take part of presentations on Infrastructure Projects of Gujarat and investment opportunities in the Urban Development Sector, Port & port related activity, Oil and Gas sector and Energy Scenario in the state.

The Chamber also signed an MoU with the Industrial Extension Bureau, iNDEXT-b to further strengthen the business between India and Sweden.

Dinners were hosted by the iNDEXT-b, Industrial Extension Bureau, a government of Gujarat Organization and the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry where also Indian companies had been invited to match the delegates specific B2B requests.

SCCI in association with ZEUS Law Associates hosted a half dayinteractive seminar with Mr. S. M. Rastogi, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi, Mr. Najib Shah, Chief Commissioner of Customs, Delhi and Mr Gautam Bhattacharya, the Commissioner of Service Tax.

The seminar started with ZEUS Law Associates presenting the latest developments within direct and indirect taxes from the Budget. Thereafter, the floor was left open for questions and interaction with the Delhi Chief Commissioners. It became a very vivid discussion and many interesting angles of tax law where raised at the Q&A session.

SCCI would like to thank the Delhi Chief Commissioners and ZEUS Law Associates for participating and taking such an active part in the seminar, sharing their thoughts and experience.

At the seminar there were participating companies from the Swedish Chamber of Commerce India, the Economic and Commercial Affairs section at the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, the Austrian Embassy Commercial Section and the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The Chamber's yearly Golf Tournament

The 3rd edition of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce of India Golf Tournament took off on 24 March with 96 enthusiastic players at the Golden Greens Resort.

The tournament was followed by a dinner and prize distribution ceremony at the Residency of H E Mr Lars -Olof Lindgren at the Swedish Embassy. Around 130  graced the occasion.

The Winner of the "Gross Ladies" was Ms Isabella Rahm and the Winner of the "Gross Men" was Christopher Rahm. The first prize was gift vouchers of Rps 5,000, a Titan Watch and Finnair tickets . The winner of the "Runner Up Ladies Nett" was Ms Pia Berglund and and the winner of the "Runner Up Men Nett" was Mr Otto Raidi. They both received a trophy and oriflame basket. The winner of the "Longest Drive Overall" was Mr Mayur Rastogi.

Seminar with EKN, the Swedish Export Guarantee Board


The board of directors of EKN, the Swedish Export Guarantee Board, visited the SCCI. Ms Karin Apelman, the General Director and Head of EKN, presented how EKN can insure Swedish companies in India against the risk of non-payment in export transactions, thereby enabling them to conduct more secure export transactions.

EKN is a governmental agency which provides companies, banks and financial institutions with state guarantees against losses incurred in export transactions and foreign investment.



Half-day conference with the Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO)

The Federation of Indian Export Organization (FIEO) in association with SCCI  organized an Interactive session on “Exploring Business Opportunities with Swedish Buying Houses" on 12 March 2012.

At the session, the representatives of the Swedish buying houses elaborated on their current buying trends and were also giving advice to the participating Indian companies for approaching the buying houses.

At the conference, the Indian companies had the opportunity to introduce their products for getting an entry into the supply chain.The meeting was followed by networking lunch.

The members had the opportunity to interact with the speaker and highlight their current challenges and prospects and bring forth areas where there is potential for further Swedish engagement while doing business in India.

Swedish Chamber hosts a succesful evening seminar in Chennai!

The Swedish Chamber of Commerce India organised an extremely successful  evening seminar about "A lifetime in recycling – The past and the present" by Hans-Eric Andersson from Hans Andersson Recycling and Erik Thorstensson from Creatable demonstrated "Recycling 2.0 – The future".

Göran Hägglund, the Swedish Minister for Health and Social Affairs visited the SCCI together with Ms Maria Helling, Swecare on Monday 20 February 2012.

About 15 members gathered at the SCCI to interact with the esteemed speakers focusing on the latest developments and challenges within the Indo-Swedish co-operation in the field of healthcare and public health.

Seminar with the Swedish Insitute for Computer Science

SCCI hosted a seminar with the Swedish Institute for Computer Science (SICS), an innovation-driven industrial research organization based in Stockholm.

SICS is opening an office in Hyderabad, India. The office will, in partnership with Swedish industry, do applied research within SICS core areas, pursue structured recruitment, and offer other services. SICS India will seek cooperation with select Indian universities. Projects to be financed by industry partners and through the Swedish, European and Indian innovation systems.
