History of the Chamber
The Swedish Ambassador to India, Mr Lars Olof Lindgren and the Swedish Trade Commissioner, Mr Fredrik Fexe, initiated the idea of a Swedish Chamber of Commerce in India during the spring of 2007. This seed started to grow in the summer, as the survey we conducted among the Swedish Business Community in India showed a great interest in forming a Chamber. A start up Board was elected and we had an inauguration in Mumbai in September 2007. During the autumn the Board had several meetings and a lawyer was appointed to register the Chamber as a company limited by guarantee..
In January 2008 the office earlier at Connaught Place was staffed with Ms Cecila Oskarsson as its first General Manager. In February the name Swedish Chamber of Commerce India was accepted by the Indian Government. The Chamber's office since August 2009 has moved to Swedish Trade Council, C/o Embassy of Sweden, Nyaya Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. Since Spring 2008 the Chamber is organising breakfast meetings, seminars and other forms of members' interaction such as a Spring Ball in Delhi, Crayfish Party in Mumbai and much more.
